About Us ...
 History of #Beginner

#Beginner is a chat channel located on the
Undernet
group of servers. To many of us, we also call it home. Our primary purpose is to welcome
folks from all over the world to Internet Relay Chat, or
IRC. Our goals
include teaching our visitors how to use their
IRC clients ,
and to remove some of the mystery of talking through our computers with folks thousands of miles away.
Along the way, we enjoy the privilege of making new friends from all around the world.
Timeline of our history:
- January 1995, #Beginner first came into existence when a fellow by the name of Unicus started the channel and became the very first Channel Manager.
- August 18, 1995, the #Beginner channel
became an officially recognized and registered channel of the Undernet. At
this time, we underwent an important transformation when we received a
W bot
provided by #CService.
(A W(or X) bot is basically a program which helps the Ops
of a registered channel manage their responsibilities.)
- Near the end of 1995 the channel was given to Retro93 who served as Channel Manager.
- August of 1998 the channel was turned over to Puddytat.
- December of 1999 Bossmom was asked to assume leadership of the channel and she served as Channel Manager for almost four years.
- September of 2003, Starrie (Snowie) began her role as Channel Manager.
- March of 2005, Papajohn assumed duties as the Channel Manager, and currently runs the business.
Before this date, the channel was home to only a few regular ops and users, probably totaling around
20 people at any given time. This all changed in September of 1996 when
mIRC 4.6 came out with
#Beginner listed first in the mIRC Channels Folder. These days, mid 2008, we average about
100+ people in the channel most times, and our all-time high is a record of 295, which occurred
on Friday, May 5th, 2000, 10:32 p.m. (Spain time).
 Staff of #Beginner

We have a GREAT group of
Ops and
Voices that monitor
the #Beginner Channel, and this site is put together by them....for you. The channel wouldn't exist without the dedication and volunteer work of these people from a wide variety of occupations. We have teachers, executives, homemakers, students, computer engineers,
all working diligently to monitor the channel, and to help make everyone's stay as pleasant as possible. Many thanks to all of them for their hard work, their loyalty, and most of all...their friendships. To learn more about the Ops and Voices of #Beginner,
please check out our
#Beginner Gallery
We hope everyone enjoys their stay in our channel, and to get the most out of your IRC experience, remember this:
Be nice -- Play nice -- and Have Fun!
